War Stories from Mississippi Cover

Hard Cover, 245 Pages

Dark Secrets is a book that crosses 400 years of history beginning in the seventeenth century and wrapping up in twenty-first century Georgia. Along the way the discussion includes the earliest days of eastern Mississippi, several important families of Meridian and lands right smack in the middle of a murder in Marietta, Georgia. And that's not even mentioning the sad story of the Cooper family or the hiding out in Honduras.

The incidents covered in this book are extensively researched and presented in detail. More than three years went into verifying and documenting Dark Secrets. Mr. Clarke reviewed and analyzed what police detectives call the "Murder Books" for these cases. These so-called murder books, consisted of more than 1,600 pages and included crime scene photographs and sketches, autopsy and forensic reports, transcripts of investigators' notes and witness interviews. Mr. Clarke interviewed 15 witnesses, read a great many hearing transcripts and sorted though literally dozens of private photographs. Some of the dialogue you'll be reading are direct quotes from the people who struggled through the incidents on which Mr. Clarke reports. In Dark Secrets you can be sure that the history you're reading is accurate and the stories are complete.

It was cold that afternoon on Christmas Day when Freddie's family opened the door at the Broadhead Associates sales office and were shocked to find Freddie trying to clean up blood on the floor. The lead detective later said, "This case has it all -- 1600 pages of police investigation of a murder and sex, drugs and rock and roll.
Dark Secrets is a true story, a tale of two famous families from Meridian, Mississippi, the rich and adventurous Broadheads and the brilliant high-toned Coopers, both families with great achievement and tragic failure.
